We discuss applications of structured codes in multi-user communication networks, with the focus on the compute-and-forward scheme. We show that a generalised compute-and-forward scheme permits a novel multiple access technique with low decoding complexity. Furthermore, related notions and results on the sumset of linear/lattice codes will also be discussed. The results offer valuable insights to the strength and weakness of structured codes in multi-user networks.
Jingge Zhu has recently obtained his PhD degree from Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Lausanne, Switzerland. He received the B.S. degree and M.S. degree in electrical engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China, in 2008 and 2011, respectively. He also received the Dipl.-Ing. degree in technische Informatik from Technische Universität Berlin, Berlin, Germany in 2011. His research interests include information theory with applications in communication systems. Dr. Zhu is the recipient of the IEEE Heinrich Hertz Award for Best Communications Letters in 2013, and the recipient of the Early Postdoc Mobility Fellowship from Swiss NSF in 2015.
